Well, in case you didn’t know, researches have shown that most of the cameras were destroyed either because of water leaks or because they felt down from the owner’s hands. And who are the most common type of people to drop cameras into water or on the floor? If you think of children, you got the correct answer.
Believe it or not, there are actually manufacturers that make only kids cameras known as “Tough Kids”. These devices are more focused on being resistant rather than having a cutting–edge design (actually, they look extremely bulky, which is not a problem since children need bigger buttons), but they can take up to 500 pictures if you use a memory card.
There are plenty of cheap waterproof cameras, but they do not produce particularly good photographs. On the other hand, you can purchase specialist waterproof equipment, like pouches and cases, which will protect an expensive Digital SLR camera. This is perfect for budding photographers who don’t want to spend thousands of dollars on a professional waterproof camera. They can enjoy experimenting with their camera underwater, then come home and relax on the PC, where they can edit their photos and visit partypoker.com while the photographs upload to Facebook or Flickr. A decent DSLR will set you back around $500-800, whereas a disposable camera is just a few dollars. The picture quality is clearly reflected in the price.
Of course that when buying a waterproof and shockproof digital camera you will first consider its technical aspect regarding immersability and its resistance to falls, but even so, do not neglect the features it can offer. A best underwater camera is not necessarily a shiny one, but rather one that is extremely resistant, allowing you to both take outstanding quality pictures and in the same time be protected against common issues.
